Welder Job query
Hi
My OH is a pipefitter/welder C&G level 3 (NZQA level 4). When we first started looking at NZ a level 4 was sufficient but it has since been increased to a level 5 so he is not on the wanted list.
We have had our house on the market for the last year and have finally sold it so we are looking at NZ again. We have heard that the recession has made it very difficult for immigrants with visa's being revoked if you get made redundant.
Are there any Welders in NZ who can give us a view on what the situation is really like and is there any point in our coming to NZ to try to find a job or should we wait to see if the economy picks up. If it just was just my OH and myself we would risk it but we have an 11 year old daughter to consider.
Your views would be very gratefully received. Thanks. Jo

A Maori kiwi mate of mine is possibly losing his engineering job next week. It's welding/erection/plating etc, and thing's have gone a bit quiet.
But, we have god alone knows how many engineering firms here, so maybe it's a local rural thing.
