Hi,

How long is the current wait for police checks to be completed in the UK?

I understand that if you apply for a visa of 24 months or more you'll need them otherwise if it's less than that you don't (?).

Since I'm a bit constrained for time, I might go for a shorter visa if the wait for the checks is quite long.

Police checks sent 11th Oct and received back 1st Dec...so the 40 days pretty much spot on.

Thanks - that was what I was worried about; especially with Xmas in a couple of weeks time, the "real" time may be longer than 40 days for a check requested in the next few days.

By law they have to have posted them out in no more than 40 days

yp by law. You are actually doing a Data Protection Request which by Law has to be retutrned within 40 days.

They do appear to leave it as long as they can though we sent ours off Nov 6th? and phoned yesterday without much luck.

Apply as early as you need. They are valid 6 months

Thanks - what I meant was due to the Xmas/New Year hols the 40 working days gets stretched out a bit longer than usual.......I'll pop down the Police Station on Monday and put in an application.
