Default Anyone any ideas ????

Righty for those who didn't know we got deferred for 3 months giving time for specialist referrals for high Liver tests as to cause and to get my BMI down to under 35. We have accomplished all of the above and more, I had a cardiologist consultation and a letter supporting, as I suffer with high blood pressure. However this is controlled extremely well on tablets. All this documentation along with the dieticians reports and my record card detailing my weight loss and BMI has gone to NZ house. Yesterday I recieved an e.mail saying that in the opinion of the case officer it would be helpful if I got a further letter from the Specialists detailing my new BMI as there is only the dieticians letter to support this.
My question is... has anyone encountered these sort of problems with the medical officer before and if so how did they overcome this.
Just to give an overview on submitting the ITA my BMI was higher than I thought and the medical officer referred the medical back saying to achieve a BMI of 40 or below then submit again, this has been done , it came back 2nd time BMI below 35 and now they want further letters when they already have them. I am at my wits end here and financially it is costing a fortune. BMI is now 33.
I have e.mailed the c/o and asked for a 2nd opinion from a different medical assessor as I feel the goal posts are being moved everytime I speak to them, so I am waiting on that decision as we speak.
So any help or advice would be welcomed.
Dont bother replying if you want to ridicule etc..... thanks.
Steve and Dee.

I am going through exactly the same....When i had my medical, one of my liver functions was elevated, did more bloods before submitting the medical with the ITA,the liver function was now below the level that they require, submitted them, they were referred to a medical assessor, like yourself they have been sent back, and they want more information, and more bloods.

Like yourself i also feel they keep moving the goal posts and it does piss you off, maybe they are getting more choosey in this current economic climateAnd it gets you thinking is it worth all this stress.....
As my doctor said it doesn't seem to matter what he writes ,they will decide whatever....

Hi Squiddley thanks for replying I too am really peed off as I have a job waiting for me but it all depends on the final decision. To be honest after getting 3 letters from my own GP and two letters from specialists this still doesn't seem to be enough for some medical assessor sitting in an office who doesn't even know us all.
It would appear to me that if you have a job offer posted on the skill shortage list they would, if all is fine, welcome you with open arms. I am afraid at this moment in time if they come back with a negative decision that will be fine as I am off the thinking now if this is how they carry on with people like us now how do they treat them when they are actually there. It does make me wonder a little sorry.
I am not being bitter over this at all, just totally confused as to why they require more letters when they already have the information they require from speicalists whom they are requesting we see again. Confusing or what

Hi, I am the same as you, I also have a job waiting and so does my wife. Like you I am getting to the stage where if they come back asking for more stuff when I have already submitted the stuff that they have already asked for I may say STICK IT, is it worth all of the hassle!!!!!!!

My doctor has said exactly the same as yours have said re shortage lists etc, because I am sure if we were both on it we would be in there a lot easier.

Good luck in your quest i hope you get what you want........

Hi to you both. You may have seen my previous posts on the ridiculous situation with the Medical Assessor and my sons Osgood Schlatters or growing pains. When we got the email saying our extensive GP's letters and reports were not acceptable and only a specialist report would do, I felt like telling them to stick it! However, that would have been cutting off my nose to spite my face as my Nan used to say!
I got it out of my system by writing a stinking email and just not hitting the send butting (be very careful here!).
All I can say is stick with it, if it's what you really want. Best of luck to you both and here's hoping you get good news shortly (even if it has cost you an arm, a leg and any other body parts you can think of!).

Hi Dee

Is the letter from a specialist just recommendaton of your CO or request from the MA? If you think your Co is being unreasonable, you could always ask for a supervisor to look at your case, beleive me, you wouldn't be the first to make that request;we nearly did with ours

I think they are tightening up on the BMI side of medicals. There was a report on the news a couple of weeks ago about an American lady complaining that they wouldn't let her in because she was 'fat'. The media take on it all is that NZ has the right to choose who they let in and unless you have a skill that is essential to NZ, ( such as scientist) then they should say no. Personally, I think unless thy physically look at that person in the living flesh, I am not sure how thy can make a decision, and having seen Squiddley in the living flesh, I would say that they are being 'picky' ( That will cost you a very large wine Sid )

As Chippy says though, some things are worth sticking with it. I would put it all on the back burner for the week and enjoy Xmas and see what the New Year brings.

Best of luck to all of you

I don't have any advice but just to say, i guess this is the time you ask yourself how much you really want this.

they are making you jump through hoops and it seems totally unreasonable considering they apparently need skilled people in their country.

I guess if you want to go there badly enough, you will jump through whatever hoops you have to.

best of luck with it all. hope you get there in the end.

Thanks to all those who read the post etc, we do definitely want to go to NZ but I think you do have to stand back and assess what is going on. I have been so looking forward to starting this new job and relishing the challenge of starting afresh in a new country but it does make me wonder as to whether they really do want my skills etc. Anyway thanks again for the advice and suggestions we are going to wait and see what comes back from the second opinion and take it from there, but I really am at a loss if it comes back a no as to what to do next.
Anyway to everybody who uses this site and to all those just joining this forum may we wish you all Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Seasons Best Wishes
Steve and Dee.
