Writing “File #” on FBI record?
I have received a request from CIC, Buffalo for updated FBI record.
I have received the FBI Fingerprint card with "NO arrest record" and a FBI cover letter along with the Card today.
I saw reference to mentioning "File #" in all the documents sent to CIC post AOR stage.
Would it be advisable to write the File # in the FBI Finger print card or in the cover letter sent by FBI ?
Or
Would it suffice to add a cover letter and mention the File # in the cover letter, such that we do not have to alter the Fingerprint Card returned from FBI. Please suggest on what's the right thing to do when we send additional docs to CIC.
Thanks very much.

I will be facing the same quandary in a few weeks, and plan on enclosing a cover letter with full applicant name and file number. I wouldn't take the chance that writing the file number on the card may be regarded as defacing it. I'm confident that the cover letter will be sufficient.

Write your B-123-456-789 file number on the Miscellaneous Number field on the FBI fingerprint card. When sending the FBI card to CIC Buffalo, Put your file number as a reference on the envelope (ATTN: Ref. File # B-123-456-789) so it will be routed to the correct CIC section.
