What is the percentage to get a PR after one have settle in Canada with working permit? It that a good idea?

We will probably do this , probably through Alberta PNP.

I think the pluses are:
1. there might be additional tax breaks- not sure about this though
2. you are free to get another job- which even if you don't want one its always a good idea for your employer to want to keep you, rather than know he can as you can't go elsewhere
3. you can pay into pension
4. You can get jobs more easily elsewhere in canda if you want

percentage? no idea. i know of several people who came on a work permit and after a few months here applied for / got pr as pnp to buffalo. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/skilled/provnom/index.html - afaik ontario is just starting it's pnp-program - check this thread http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=454253

afaik if you apply as sw you get 5 points extra if you've worked / lived legally in canada for more than a year. (i guess i've seen that in the self assessment form http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/skilled/assess/index.html)
