Hi there,
Can anyone tell me if you can get a work permit in Ontario as easy as you can in BC with a job offer? (Construction)
It seems thats companies in BC can get work permits a lot easier than Ontario.
We have a friend that want's to come out but can only seem to get a job offer (work permit) in Vancouver but not Toronto!
Any help would be much appreciated.

Construction workers are not listed amongst Ontario's Occupations under Pressure.

However, some occupations in the construction industry are listed amongst the occupations that are eligible for Ontario's Provincial Nominee Program.

In order to get work permit applicant must have job offer with positive LMO.

So, the stage #1 is to find employer in Ontario who wants to hire your friend and is willing to go through hassle of LMO application process.

And it is not the employer who applies for work permit - employer only provides job offer and after meeting all requirements applies for LMO. Once LMO is granted it is foreign worker who applies for work permit.

And there is no difference between applying for work permit for job based in Ontario or BC, as long as there is proper job offer and positive LMO. The only difference may be in the availability of jobs - but it has nothing to do with WP process itself, not any easier or harder to get WP.

You are obviously confusing job market with work permit process.

Thank-you Judy and Andrew for your replies.
When we first came over we had to go to Vancouver first as we could not get a job offer in Ontario.
We went through an agent who arranged the job offer and the LMO and the work permit, so l was not sure how it all worked.
So thank you again, we will have to see if we can get an employer here in Ontario to offer our friend a job.
He is a very good Carpenter (any offers out there!!!!) worth a try!

You'll have to do more than find your friend a job offer. You'll have to find him an offer of a job that no qualified Canadian resident wants.
