HI,
I have applied to become a driving instructor in Canada and have got a bit of positive feedback already.
The only sticking point seems to be is that i need to do a 4 week course to get re qualified in Canada. Is it possible to get a work permit approved pending me passing the exam at the end of the course or would i have to do the course then come back and apply for a work permit?
Thanks for all your help

even if you find an employer willing to take you on they must prove to hrdc that they tendered the job out in this order the local and canadain people starting with veterans,Citiziens, permanent residents and lastly any other
You just cant simply apply on your own and hope to get one out of the blue

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. Yes I do understand that it is difficult getting a work permit. I'm only going by the replies i have had from Canada. They all seem pretty positive and keen so i was thinking that there might be a demand. If it was an occupation that would gain me a work permit, do i have to qualify first or can i qualify whilst out on a work permit?

It would be best to speak to an employer first and see if they will grant you a job if you pass the course and grant you the work permit!
If you were to come over and do the course then then go back to the Uk there is no guarntee that the company can employee you!!

Hi Nottingham!
What do you mean by "I have applied to become a driving instructor in Canada and have got a bit of positive feedback already"?
So you aren't a driving instructor yet I guess?
If so, if you take the course, it counts as studying I believe and anybody can undertake a study for up to 6 month without a study permit or any other permit.
Like the others said, you must have an employer first that would be willing to sponsor, PLUS the Canadian company must have advertised the job offer for a certain time already, before considering to employ a non-Canadian.
You have to do the course, come back and then try your luck from the UK.
You could try to talk to driving schools while you are over there, get some connections in the industry.
I was thinking about getting my AZ(truck driving) license that way, there is a huge demand for truck drivers and there is really good money in it too, compared to all the other low paying jobs in Canada.
Maybe I can cheer you up a bit with my experience that I made.
I have already been in Canada on a work permit, I am cabinetmaker journeyman.
I had a permit for a year, then extended it for another year, after that I went home again and back to school for now.
So it is possible to get a work permit and you don't have to be in IT work for that either. Actually it is really easy to get to Canada if you are in a trade I think.
The province of Alberta, or one of the chambers from Alberta held a job fair here in Germany, trying to recruit people, I was really surprised to hear about that, guess it tells you smth about the state of the economy there!
So go out there and try your luck!
