Wording of the letter from employer

Dear experts, I am about to ask my former employer for a proof of employment letter.
Does this letter have to be like a reference letter? That is, besides salary and job
duties description, should it say something like "he made significant research
contributions while working here" or "Please accept my highest recommendation for
him"? The reason why I care about this is that I have a chance to be considered under
the old law (I have already mailed the rest of the application). I will qualify only
if I get 5+ points under the "personal suitability factor".
I will appreciate your advice. Thank you. Alexander

No - this letter should reference your employment dates, position in the company,
brief job responsibilities and the salary you earned on your current/previous
employer letterhead.

The most important aspect of such letters is the description of the work that you had
done. Subjective assessments of your work do not have significant weight in the
assessment of an application for Canadian immigration.
