We just moved back to ontario from winnipeg.... it's a busy city if you
like that kind of thing.... but what i did like is that they have alot
of resources for kids ... the schools were good.... unlike where i'm
from in ontario the classroom sizes in winnipeg were small ... ontario
where i'm from the classrooms even for kindergarten you are looking at
about 30 kids/class winnipeg is about 20-23/class at the school my kids
were at ....
shopping is great there.... loads of places to get great deals on
things... rent is cheap but groceries are high so kinda equals out...
property is also cheap there....
we lived in the St. Cross area near Kildonan park just off Main street ....
OH one word of warning... Hope you like mosquitoes, they seem to own
propertie out there and have thier own landing strips they are sooo big
and plentyfull LOL
hope this helps
don't forget the mosquito repellant!

Being in the middle of a large continent, Winnipeg can be subject to
wide variation in temperature extremes, from quite cold in the winter,
to hot in the summer.

Not saying any of that is good or bad ( I actually prefer the cold to
heat myself ), but just a fact. From what little I know about the
city itself, though, it seems like it'd be a great place to live, as
far as cities go.

-50C in Winnipeg is rare even with the windchill factor added in. The
coldest two months are January and February which the temperature will dip
to -30C or -40 with wind chill. Generally, it doesn't snow until late
October and the snow will melt away by the end of April. So you have around
6 months of snow a year but Winnipeg doesn't receive too much percipitation
relatively speaking.

A lot of the facts of winter in Winnipeg have been blown out of proportion.

Heehee ... you said it ... blown ... if it weren't for the famous winds
at Portage and Main (and the mosquitos) it would be a nice place to
live!

I have never lived there myself but as I said, my mum was there for 12 years up until Christmas just gone and I spoke to her every 3 days whilst she was there- I got bored of being told the temperature. For the last 3 years I have spoken to our supplier (and investor) based in Winnipeg every 2 days who confirms these extremes

I spent six winters in Winnipeg and the coldest I had ever experienced was
something like -40+ with windchill. The coldest temperature wise was little
below -35C. Yes, Winnipeg is cold and it is windy but to say it could get
to -50C constantly is not true.

A normal January or Februrary day will have temperature raning from -18
to -25 and it'll drop futher to -30ish when a cold front comes in.
Sometimes people and even people in Winnipeg like to sensationalist the
weather thingy there just because there isn't much to talk about other than
that.
