Last year I was refused entry to the US on a VWP. I have since got this issue resolved with the Americans. The reason for refusal was that the border officer thought I needed "work authorization' to work temporarily (for my canadian company) in the states. It is a grey area and in retrospect I probably should have been allowed in but argued my case incorrectly....

Anyway, I am a BC PNP and my application is currently in Seattle. Someone suggested the American dilemma will ruin my Canadian PR as I have been officially refused entry to the US on the VWP (now I have to use a B2 visa). I'm not sure if they are correct but does anyone have any experience with this?

I imagine worst case scenario I can write a letter to CIC explaining my situation and hope for the best, but you never know.

I believe you can't avoid declaring your previous refused entry to US, but I also believe your experience will not result in you being ruled inadmissible during the PR background checks. Having said that, each case will be judged on its merits, so it is not possible, in my opinion, to get a definitive answer from anyone other than CIC.

Thanks - I don't think I have done anything horribly wrong so hopefully they will understand. The more I think about it, I am starting to veer towards a letter to CIC explaining the situation, but will weigh up the pros and cons some more before sending the letter.
