It doesn't take too much travelling around this now-small world of ours to open one's eyes to the fact that UK Inc. is a degenerative, decaying, rotting dump, and there are better nicer more relaxed pleasant and beautiful places to spend one's time earning a crust and forging a life.

Rude kids, rude parents. The cult of abuse and blame culture. The rise of chav culture, thuggery, violence, abuse, deteriorating homelife, less opportunities for the honest and fair, the demise of proper ed-yu-cay-shun.

Crumbling public transport, roads clogged, trains planes and buses tatty old and scruffy.

NHS falling apart, MRSA superbug taking over our hospitals, dentistry almost fully privatised, try getting a doctor next time you move home.

90% of wealth owned by 10% of the population (inept inbred upper classes) plus snobbery, nepotism, etc.

A very dubious immigration system, based not on skills and contribution to UK Inc. but on future subservient controllable easily manipulated tax paying grunts.

President B. Liar, the shame of our involvement in the war on oil, spin doctors and a vile twisted warped media, lies and deceits, not to mention urban chaos, street warfare between gangs, shootings, bling bling culture, da yoof ov 2day innit, eastern European drugs gangs running most of London.

Yup, some of the above apply in Canada plus 'unique' Canadian problems of different sorts, yes Canada has problems of its own and for sure I'm generalising and making broad sweeping statements in the list above to the point where I couldn't now be bothered to justify or explain in more depth by views, but given the choice, we know where we want to be and why. Each to their own and each person decides their own motivation for emigrating. Ours isn't career opportunity, it's a lifestyle thang. We've watched the exchange rate drop, house prices drop in the UK and rise in BC, and still want to make the move. One chance, one crack at this thing called life, so live it, do something, make a difference, enjoy it and don't sit on the dock watching the boat sail away without you. I underline all that. In addition to racism. I lived in UK for five years until I finally realized to escape. I had 2 months sick leave for an assault from a kick on my chest and one kick on my head 2 years later in my work with youth....Now I returned to my own country in Scandinavia just to learn that they have took a very good example from Brits, while always been a violent country by itself, now also human rights have been pushed down. At least Canada is considered one of the best places to live according to research.

Eila,

Britain is becoming a nation of modern day savage ignoramii (SIC) (the anglo-saxon has always been a violent brash roguish warrior type)....we spread wonderful technology and construction and engineering across the globe but then..........the great decline and the post-industrial grim landscape unfolded, whilst we pretended to tell ourselves that things weren't really so bad.

I used to be fairly patriotic, but now I am more apathetic than ever in that respect. I now look at values differently and make different judgements.

I have been lucky recently in that I have just finished working for a small company with a very diverse culture and nationalities, and I have seen how good things can be. I hope I am lucky enough to find an employer in Canada who judges me for what I am and what I am capable of doing, learning and contributing. My view on life has certainly changed, and I think the values and beliefs my wife and I hold will stand us in good stead in Canada.

All the best, and sorry to hear of your plight. Often those wishing to do well for others are at the sharp end of peoples frustrations, anger and wrath.

WOW, if that's what England's like, I am terrifed to think what the rest of Europe's like. England, after all, is about #2 after Germany (#1 European economy) as far as wealth and such.... Don't tell me France and Italy's better.... I know something about those two. In summary.... WOW.

I don't think England is the best place to live in Europe, and I wouldn't make a judgement on it in terms of "wealth and such", more on quality of life and overall happiness... I'm leaving the UK for some of the same reasons but also because the weather is constantly grey here, it always seems to be raining and the scenery is dirty old buildings (which adds further to the depressing situation). If I spoke the language there are other places I would love to live in Europe, e.g. Italy/France. One thing I will miss is the history of the UK, I walk past York minster on the way to work every morning. But instead I can walk past a mountain on the way to work .

I think the problem is the over-socialist government of the UK (as a normally Labour voter I never thought I would hear myself say that) which means people can sit back and live on £3000 a month in benefits with no incentive to get off their arses and work for what they earn.

No Jonny...don-t fall in this trap...do not think italy is the paradise described in 1950-s American movies with kids playing soccer on the streets and smiling people all around...italy is collapsing economically (ranked 54 after Botswana in competitiveness) and socially...UK and Germany might be bad countries full of problems but at least are serious...

those sticky cinemon buns are available here now... cinebon is in Lakeside Shopping Centre, Essex... sadly Tim Hortons have know plans for expansion into the UK (i've asked!!!), and as for trying to find Poutine...!

Britain is an amazingly diverse country in terms of countryside, history and people, but it is very crowded, especially down here in the south east. Amplied by the pace of life and the never ended desire to make more money than your neighbour, makes it all too competitive and angry, not like Canada on the whole.

My desire for leaving is quality of life and with stupid high house prices here, i can practically retire to canada at the age of 28! but this is probably the wrong place to get a fair picture of the uk as a place to live as everyone reading this wants to leave...

I love the UK. I love our beautiful little village in the heart of the Hampshire countryside with it's 15th century thatched cottages and pleasant people. I think we are lucky with the town that we live next to as the people are all very friendly and it is a very low crime area. The High Street is littered with fabulous arrangements of flowers and trees and people 'help' each other when needed.

I also love Canada. I love our beautiful larger village there with the gorgeous Northumberland Hills and the lovely Trent-Severn river meandering through it. The area is very low crime and again the people are very friendly and help out whenever we have asked.

We have as many good friends in Canada as we have in the UK. The countryside is impressively comparable. For us, we have been able to purchase a lovely farm property with 100 fabulous acres for the cost of a top of the range caravan in the UK! My husband can retire and I can start my business in the knowledge that I don't have to scrimp on it in any way. Selling our stables in the UK, freed up an enormous amount of Canadian Dollars - realizing this sort of capital was definitely a major lure!

We leave for Canada on the 9th December and obviously will missour family and friends, but there is nothing else that we miss when we are in Canada. I certainly won't miss spending $190.00 to fill my car up! Or the astronomical taxes or the ridiculous laws that quietly get passed without mention!

Nope, I won't be looking back. I have enjoyed my time in the UK and now I am moving on again.
