Default when to apply as a conjugal partner?

oops, posted this in the wrong forum before so here it goes:

After much consideration, I've decided that sponsoring my boyfriend as a conjugal partner is the easiest way for him to come here. However we only got together in may so i can't apply just yet to be a sponsor. So i'm wondering if its ok to apply next may as soon as our relationship has been a year old. (Still not sure on how to prove exactly when it started) Or should i wait a year and couple months or what exactly i'm not sure.

Also since this is a new catagory I'm wondering if anyone has successfully sponsored someone as a conjugal partner and how long it took for them?

thanks!

Sorry I can`t help, I`m in a similar situation to yourself. I for one would be interested to hear from anyone who has successfully achieved PR through this new catagory.

you definately need to wait until it is at least a year old because thaths
explicit in the rules. For proof you need things like photographs of you
together over that time and plane ticket stubs etc showing you have visited
each other and possibly letters or emails indicating the serious nature of
your relationship. testimonies from family will probably help too saying
they see your relationship as serious and have each met you and things like
that.
The conjugal class only came into existance on June 28th and as there is
gonna be a 6-8 months at least processing time there probably wont be many
sucessful cases until early next year, so there should be some by the time
you are ready to apply next May.

wizzard, thanks for your help. i am very eager to see how this class turns out for people. i assume you are in a similar situation? i'm not sure if you can answer this but when my boyfriend first visited me, he didn't keep his ticket cause we didn't think that far ahead. but he does have a stamp in his passport saying date of entry to montreal. do you think that is enough proof? and also i was going to school at mcgill in montreal then, so do i thus need to prove i was a student there? (i currently live in ontario and would be applying with my address here.)

thanks!

aphotocopy of a Canadian immigration stamp wit a date of entry on is
perfectly good evidence he was in the country at that time.

Cheryl,

My conjugal partner app is currently being processed. I recently received an interview waiver....

If I were you, I would compile everything you can possibly find related to any visits (i.e. passport stamps, ticket receipts, boarding passes, frequent flyer account statements, etc. Call the airline and request addt'l copies if necessary.) I ended up sending a 5-inch binder FILLED TIGHT with backup info. Everything I could find connecting the two of us (pictures, long distance bills, airline/train trip backup, cards we'd sent to e/o, and in my case an invitation to our engagement party), carefully organized and labeled.... It earned me an interview waiver.

Good luck!
McGill
