Want to visit husband in Canada - how to avoid problems
I am a US citizen and my Canadian husband has applied for permanent
residency in the US.
After 14 months of separation, and probably several more to go, I really
need to see him for a while.
The separation has had a devastating effect on our business, and I cannot
currently afford the costs to initiate permanent residency visa. Nor could
he show that he could support me (the project he has been working on will
not produce any money until he is allowed to return to the US. )
If I go to Canada, what do I need to be careful of so that I do not cause
future problems when I can afford to apply for permanent residency.
Is there any way that I could work on a temporary basis while visiting, or
would this be a complete no-no.
Once I did apply for permanent residency, how long is it likely to take
before I would be allowed to work in Canada.
Is there any advantage or disadvantage to applying for Canadian permanent
residency while I am still in the US?

No problem at all...
Have your husband sponsor you.You can apply for Canadian PR from the US. Your husband's income doesn't apply to spousal sponsorship. It will take about 6 months on average, maybe longer. But US citizens are usually the quickest.
You cannot work in Canada until you get PR, unless, you get a work permit. It's rather difficult and a long process. The job has to be approved by the HRDC. Meaning that no Canadian is qualified. Best to get your husband to sponsor you.
