Just wondered if anyone had received their visas but not activated them when visiting Canada on a reccie and coming back to the UK?
Anyone?

Hi Andrea! How's it going?
You just have to keep an eye on the timescale and activate your visas before they run out! Otherwise you can come and go as often as you like.
Once you have activated your visas, you are under no compunction to remain in Canada at that time, so long as you meet the residency requirements of 2 years out of 5 (?I think it is)
Are you and Mark having second thoughts???

Only those with visa waiver passports (eg British citizens) can enter Canada as visitors instead of as immigrants, if an immigrant visa has been stamped in their passports.

As Morwenna said, once you'd activated your PR status, you could still return to the UK and come back to Canada later, as long as you met your residency obligations.
Edited to add that, when I responded to you earlier, I hadn't realized that it would be so long between your upcoming recce trip and your ultimate "landing" when you intended to activate your PR status.

Re: visiting but not activating visa
If you let your visa lapse, you have to apply all over again to get another one and there are no guarantees. Also all members of the family on the application have to activate their visa's with the principle applicant. If they lapse, tough!
If the employment agreement is over 2 years, activate the visa's nearer the end of the expiry period and then come out when you can get out of your agreement and you should still be able to make the 2 years out of 5 ruling.

If I remember correctly, you have to "land" in Canada and activate your PR status within a year of your medicals.

Thankyou for your help, We hope to get med requests soon so may decide to "land" on the reccie, but will have to find out what to do to get back into Canada before received PR Card as wouldn't be there long enough on reccie to get it.
