Default Visa Medical in London UK- for Canadian Sposal/common Law visa

Hi All,

I am a Canadian Citizen living in the UK applying for a sponsorship common-law visa for my partner so we can move on back to Canada!

I know that my partner (who is English) needs to get a medical done as part of the application I was wondering if anyone living in London UK knows of a cheaper alternative to get one done. We can't find any for less the £250 which seems nuts!

Any help is welcome

Thanks,

Sarah

Use this link to find Panel Physicians in England
Panel Physicians

The medical has to be a Panel Physician but can be done in any country.

£250 is actually pretty good, most in the UK are nearer £300. You can try phoning round the list of DMP's, but by the time you've travelled to another one you may negate any saving.

Given all of the other costs involved in emigrating, £250 will seem like a drop in the ocean in a few months time, honestly!

Agree. We had to pay about that x 4 in 2009.

Why does this seem nuts Sarah?- admittedly some medicals are probably not as thorough as they should be but a professional service is being provided and this is likely to include a blood panel and chest X-ray- I don't think that is bad value tbh

I thought the same. I paid £295 in Manchester!!

I contacted 2-3 medical centres and all were around £300 (one in Birmingham quoted almost £400). So although it's expensive, it's 'normal'.

It was over in around 20 mins too. Physical check, urine check, 2 tubes of blood taken and a chest X-ray.

Yep, we went to the doctors office close to Knightsbridge Station, I think the cost was 280GBP or something in that region. It's pretty much the going rate.

And as Oompa said, it's a drop in the bucket compared to the rest of the fees you're about to take on!

going hopefully on Friday to London Knightsbridge, will cost me 300GBP, not easy to spend so much but as my mother in law said its drop in lifetime of expenses and moving expenses anyway and if we think its worth it just pay so thats what we do.

Yep, pretty much what everyone else said. Also, HOLD ON TO THE ORIGINAL! You will be required to mail it in at some point, so make local copies and keep them just to be safe at your place.. you know.. just in case something gets... "misplaced".. on the Canadian side!

I was told That I will get just proof that I had it as they send it themselves and they are using some electronic system. Do I copy this proof and send that with application then?

you should get a printout to take with you that will have a barcode on it (I did, at least). You'll later send this as part of your initial application package, along with your "good conduct" fingerprint checks, etc..

Oh that's confusing I asked and I was told I only need my passport as forms are there ready to fill in and all other bits they sort out electronically

Most DMP's are eMedical registered these days, so just send the results to CIC electronically and the applicant doesn't need to send anything.

HTH.

Right, she'll need her passport to prove she is who she says she is. After the tests are done (Takes all of 30 minutes; really boring), she'll get a printout and should be told to hang on to it. I almost didn't heed that advice, hence my reiteration of it ;-)

TL; DR: Enter with passport, leave with passport and bit o' paper. Doctor's office handles the rest.

Caveat: I did the "up-front" medical.

Mine cost about £400.
It lasts for a year and when the year was nearly up, CIC contacted me to say that they had no record of the medical!

I contacted the doctors office and they resent me the form I already had. I emailed it to CIC as proof that I had a medical.
I heard nothing else from CIC about that.

Concerned that I would have to redo the medical for another £400, I contacted CIC again and asked for an extension as they seemed to have 'lost' my medical. They said that I had an extra year - which was how long I have to land myself.
About a week or two later my PR confirmation came through, so it all worked out in the end.
