Hi, I need some advice. I went to India last year in April 2000, i got married-but
just by the legal marriage certificate. I did not have a legal marriage ceremony. AS
i a canadian born and i want to have the ceremony in canada, therfore all my family
can attend. Now my husband "Bob" has had his medicals in JAnuary, in March 2001, he
had his interview in Delhi, I went to India for 2 weeks and i went with him to the
embassy. The visa officer was asking for the wedding ceremony, which we did not
have- he said this was mandatory, then he asked for the letters, and his phone bills,
i was not allowed in the room. However it has been about 8 weeks and we have not
heard anything. Do u think the visa will be denied, how long does it take to get a
response after the interview? His the traditional indian wedding ceremony mandatory?
Help! Thanks

If the marriage was considered legal in India, even in the absence of the ceremony,
then it should be sufficient for the purpose of the present application. The issue at
hand is the establishment of the bona- fides of the relationship. If the supporting
documentation that was provided adequately supported the relationship, then the
application would be approved.
