Default Vancouver application for Cdn. Citizenship

Hello everyone

[I had asked this question before , but elicited only one response
from Mr. Humphries (who seemed to think it would make no difference).
Thanks for your thoughts Mr. Humphries. But I would like a second
opinion so am re-posting this]

I have applied for citizenship (mailed on Nov 23, 2002) and received
the acknowledgement from CIC on Jan 10, 2003. By common estimates - I
can expect the process to take between 8-12 months from that date.
However, I am signing up for the Canadian armed forces and to be an
officer in the forces one has to be a citizen of Canada. The problem
is, the opening I am applying is a unique postion to serve our country
which I am very well qualified for, and I would lose a golden
opportunity if my application takes as long as it is supposed to take.

My question is , if I send CIC a letter and documentation
demonstrating my intent to join the Canadian forces - will that make
any difference in speeding up my application? More importantly, I am
concerned that any communication to CIC at this stage might actually
even *delay* my application. Any thoughts?

All responses appreciated!

Why are you wasting time here instead of just trying it if time is of such
importance?! Why not to talk to your MP and ask for assistance?

Dear Mr. Miller

Thanks for your suggestion! I am sorry if I came across as overly
self-important - actually I want the position much more than they
want me. It is a coveted post and there are many competitive
applicants. However, the recruiting officer told me that I stood a
very good chance because of my qualifications and experience - but
that is of course only if I had Canadian citizenship (which I do not).
I am not sure how/why the MP would be convinced to intervene in my
favour? I am not exactly national security material or anything even
close to that - sorry if I came across as something else.

Apparently, the only option I have is to provide this information to
CIC and hope for the best. Would you think it may even delay the
process?

All responses appreciated.

Thanks

It is rather unlikely that such info will delay the case, although probably
will be less than noticed. CIC is receiving thousands of letters with
requests for speedier process for less or more serious reasons and they most
likely get plenty of those with the same reason you have, so without any
support from "higher place" your request will most likely be dismissed. This
is why I suggest you talk to your MP.

Dear Mr. Miller - Thanks for your response. Your advice is very much
appreciated. I will post my experience here as it progresses,
hopefully that would benefit others in similar situations.

Thanks again!

What if the Defense Minister orders you to head to any Muslim country and
fight over there against it? What if you will have to fight
shoulder-to-shoulder with the Americans against Muslim people, with or
without UN approval?

Sir

I am joining the army because I feel it is my duty to serve my
(adopted) country in this time of need. I will serve dutifully and do
my job and fight against anyone I am ordered to - moslem or christian,
pink or green .

I belong to what one might call a member of a "visible minority" and
feel privileged to be Canadian and all the opportunites this country
has afforded me. More importantly I feel proud to be serving this
country and its ideals. But one thing I am not proud of is people like
you - who spew your hatred and your venom directed against a religion
or race or colour, and yet claim to be Canadians. Your attitudes and
views run contrary to everything this country stands for. Please be
thankful you have the rights and freedoms to speak as you do - as
sickening and obnoxious as your views are - and it is people like my
fellow servicemen who go to fight and defend that right.

It is unfortunate and appalling that there are people like you who
chose to abuse those freedoms sitting in the comfort of your homes,
while my fellow soldiers fight and die in foreign lands. If you have
any respect for those people, please desist from your hate-ridden
posts - hate is like an acid that eats away at the container.

Thank you
Aaron
