Question US social security and canada

Hi everybody,

I recently got my Canadain PR and planning the big move in couple months...

Does anybody know if I can transfer my US social security money to Canada? If I cannot :scared: , then what happens to all my US Social security contributions after I immigrate to Canada...I've been working in the US for 6 years and dont wanna leave all that money back...

Regards
Kudla

Default Re: US social security and canada

There is an agreement between the US and Canada to protect people who spend part of their working lives in each country. You can read about it at
http://www.ssa.gov/international/Agr...ts/canada.html . It's also possible to receive your US social security benefits in Canada even if you earned them all while working in the US--see http://www.ssa.gov/international/your_ss.html .

Of course, when the current lot get finished with US social security, who knows what the result will be? You might want to buy Canadian lottery tickets as a safer backup plan. ;-)
