Update letter question for Andrew or Jim?
If skilled worker applications are (at the moment) strictly dealt with by application date, then why has someone with an identical application date as me had their update letter a couple of days ago and I haven't?

Applications enter processing by the date of submission - but this is where similarities end. Each case is unique, each application package is different, thus time of getting through different stages varies from case to case. Similarly looking applications, submitted on the same day may end up completed years apart.

Many thanks Andrew, for your reply, it has answered my question, so does that mean that applications get initially assessed at update letter stage, I thought that update letters were just automatically sent out computerised letters?

Update letters are not sent automatically, they are being sent after initial assessment and only to applicants who didn't already update their cases earlier, without being asked for it, or who updated their files but such update was incomplete.

May I ask one more question?
What do they check on initial assessment?
Do they check if you meet the points requirement, and if not is this the point that anyone could get a refusal letter if not enough points?

Yes, they do check at that time points score, but unless it is absolutely evident that nothing will bring score to required pass mark or it is determined that applicant didn't meet regulatory requirements (minimum skilled experience and/or funds) they still are sending update letters.
