Default TWP information needed

I have searched the wiki and may have missed it but can't find precise information on how getting a TWP works - any links apreciated. I have read the CIC site too. My question is; can you move to Canada with a job offer, apply for a TWP before LMO has been obtained and start working whilst waiting for the LMO? If yes can the family move too? I appreciate the risks of not getting LMO and having to leave but want to know if this is possible. this is so that we can move before our PR is obtained (see timeline). Again I understand the risks of rejection and upheaval. It's just a hypothetical question and wondered if anyone has done this?

Hi Mandeville, I'm pretty sure you can't do this as when you enter Canada without a work permit or LMO they will just issue you with a visitors visa - on which you cannot legally work. I think you used to be able to send off the TWP application prior to obtaining the LMO but thats not the case anymore. You would need to wait for the LMO approval then get your TWP and then you would be able to start work.

Also I notice you're from my neck of the woods, god i miss that somerrrrrset accent

No, unfortunately not - you cannot get a TWP without a valid LMO. You used to be able to have them processed concurrently (although still couldn't work until you had both), but that has now been stopped, presumably because so many more LMO's are being rejected these days.

HTH.

Thanks for answering Stacey.cook1 and Christmasmoopa, that would explain why I can't find the info! Yes there's plenty of somerrrset accent around here, I'll miss it too.
A further question..... Can you start work whilst waiting for LMO and continue to work if rejected first time around but employer reapplies? I'm just trying to find out if there is any way of moving before PR as our eldest daughter is 16 and we would like to get her into high school for September otherwise it will be very difficult to move half way through A'levels. The next daughter will be in the same predicament if we wait two years.

No, sorry. You cannot work at all without either a TWP or PR.

When did you apply for PR? Hopefully it won't be long. Alternatively, you could just go on a visitor visa, but obviously wouldn't be able to work at all until your PR comes through.

Thanks for quick answer christmasoompa . I am having trouble getting my timeline to show It's written on the extended signature box in my profile but not showing ... I also tried to upload my photo (also a springer) but can't get it down to below the max gb size. You can tell I'm new to all this . We submitted 120 day docs on 14th Sept 2010 and have only just received an AOR on 18th Jan 2011. So I'm guessing we have quite a wait still before getting medical requests and hopefully PR. When we started the application process back in March 2010, naively we thought we'd be in Ca by Aug this year. Having read everyone else's threads I see we are not the only ones who are waiting longer than we initially thought so at least we are not alone

I don't think August is that unrealistic, it's certainly possible. TBH though, a TWP is unlikely to get you over there any quicker anyway, by the time you've found an employer prepared to go through the paperwork/hassle/wait for you (can take ages unless you have specialist skills, there are people on the forum who have been trying to get a job offer for literally years rather than months) and then got your LMO (which can take several months), you'd probably have PR anyway. As I mentioned above, you could go on a visitor visa, so perhaps if your PR isn't quite through by September you could do that so your daughter can start school for the new academic year?

If you want people to be able to see your timeline, put it in your signature (not your 'extended signature' which is what people can only see if they click through to your profile). The FAQ (top right) covers a lot of things like signatures and avatars, so have a look in there for info on how to do things.

Looking forward to seeing your springer!

getting the LMO only takes a couple of weeks, then you can pick up your TWP at the border. Its fast if you can get a positive LMO

It can only take 2 weeks, but it can also take quite a bit longer, depends on the job and province. Just something for the OP to bear in mind.
