Default Timescales for TWP?

Apologies for just jumping in feet first with little introduction .......... We have used lots of useful info on this forum to help us on our epic journey so far and for that we thank you all.

Ok our story so far.................. Hubby is a nurse here in the UK and has secured a full time permanent position in BC () .......... We received a positive LMO back on Friday and now need to send off the paperwork for the TWP and then we are off.................. anyone have any idea of how long this is taking roughly at the moment?......... We have friends who made the move a few years ago and it took roughly 6 weeks which we were hoping was still the case as we are aiming to be there for the end of May if possible.

Many thanks in advance

Hi, and welcome to BE.

Congrats on the job offer and LMO.

Unfortunately, it's very unlikely you'll be there in May. TWP applications used to take 6 weeks, but current timescales are about 10 weeks, and because your husband is a nurse he will also need a medical which will add at least another month or two on to the process. Figure about 4-6 months in total or so would be my best guess.

HTH, good luck.

Edit: have just noticed you've been planning to move to Canada for a couple of years, can I be nosy and ask why you didn't just apply for PR instead of going through the hassle of finding a job offer and LMO etc?

Hi there,

Ok we weren't expecting it to take as long as another 6 months .

and the main reason we didn't go straight for PR was that we have 5 children and didn't want to move them all over without the security of knowing that my husband had a job ................. His employer has organised all the paperwork etc to go through the PNP once we are there.

Thank you for taking the time to reply though............ Its very much appreciated.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news! Most people don't require a medical so it's much quicker (and of course, if they don't require a medical they can just apply at the airport when they arrive so don't even have to wait the 10 weeks or so for TWP processing via London). Unfortunately your application will take longer because of the medical, but I hope it's quick for you.

Ah, ok. Bit late now, but you could have got PR and then had approx 4 years to move, so plenty of time for him to find work before moving over. But if the employer is going to apply for PNP straight away that's great, we've seen far too many people on the forum recently get screwed over on TWP's, so if you can get PR asap that's good.

Best of luck, and keep us posted on how it's going. We don't get many people who require medicals for TWP so it'll be interesting to see how quickly you do get it.

Thank you for the info.......................

The move has been a few years in the planning but not so much on the Canadian side to be honest.............. We wanted to sell our house (to release equity) and i was due a baby as well......... We sold the house and moved out at the beginning of January when our baby was two weeks old lol.........

My husband also had a few contacts within BC for jobs and was able to apply based on this knowledge................but it was a case of waiting for a full time and permanent position to become available to qualify for the PNP so it was a waiting game for us.

I will of course update all the details as soon as we aware of them ourselves

Also presume he is all sorted with the college of RN's for BC and ready to if not already taken CRNE? That can be a bit long winded. Medical isn't too bad and only he needs it to work however when you apply for PR everyone will need one (not sure on kids but sure once a certain age they will require one)

Just wanted to quickly update this as i said i would for those watching the thread lol............

We sent off all of the TWP paperwork on the 26th March and it arrived on 27th March and we got the medical request back to us on the 27th of April so only just over 4 weeks....................... Hubby had his medical last week at the Spire Hospital in Edinburgh............. The paperwork that came with the medical request stated that medical results would be sent back to London and that a decision would be made within 12 days.......

Wow, that's unbelievably quick, and quicker than the 10 weeks or so a TWP without a medical seems to be taking at the mo! Keep us posted on when you get the TWP, thx for updating.

Hi Calgeo

Thanks for updating this. We're about the same stage as you: application sent 23rd March, medical request received 20th April, medical done 26th April. We had the same paperwork that said 12 working days (or something like that after they receive medical results) so anxiously waiting.

As Christmasoompa said, do keep us updated!

OMG!!!.................... Fab update from us............. Our TWP and the kids study permits have arrived via email about an hour ago!!............ We are booked to fly to Vancover on the 20th June and will begin our new adventure on Vancouver Island from then............. We have jobs, a car and a house waiting on us and can't wait for it all to begin...............

So in summary our timeline for TWP inc medical was

26th March- paperwork sent to London
27th March- paperwork arrived in London
27th April- Medical request
7th May- Medical completed
8th June- TWP paperwork received by us.

So just over 10 wks for TWP inc medical.

Thanks for all of the fab support and advice

Paul and Lisa x

Hi all,

I'm happy for you calgeo.

It's now just over 6 weeks that we applied for TWP and still waiting. Our docs were sent back to us about 2 weeks and we had to send additional docs and payment for our kids. since then we've had no contacts. We have not received any emails from the high Commision in London. I work in the health sector and will need a medical. We are hoping to move before school starts for the kids in Canada early September 2012.

I'm a bit anxious about the wait. Does anyone has any advice?

Is it advisable to contact the CHC in London or just wait? Just over 6 wks into TWP
application and still waiting...

If it's only been 6 weeks, then just wait, as you're stilll a way off the normal timescales.

Hope you hear soon.
