Timeframe for PR Card
What are the current timelines for getting PR card for existing Permanent
Residents once you made the application with Sydney NS. We immigrated in
March 1998 and filed our applications in May 2003 (per CIC website
instructions)...If you can share your timelines that would be great.

Re: Timeframe for PR Card
I called the 800 number just yesterday and the rep told me that it is
taking a minimum of 3 months for processing PR cards for already
landed residents.
As always, CIC is all about waiting and waiting and more waiting.

Re: Timeframe for PR Card
I don't know about existing PRs, but my cousin landed in Toronto on May 11,
2003, first business day he filled-out the application for PR card on-line
(CIC website), he gave them my mailing address in Toronto and on June 4 his
PR card came in mail in a white envelope (from Sydney, NS). It has the size
of a driver's license/health card with a photo on it. Therefore he did not
have to apply in person and he did not even have to be in Canada to pick it
up (but he was) and, he was not asked to pay a penny for it.

He actually paid $50.00 for it, the fee is included in the application. It
is really quicker for Immigrants who land after 28/06/02 to receive their PR
Cards since all the information is in the system and their identity does not
have to be verify so the cards can be processed fairly rapidly. Whereas
others applying who were landed prior to 28/06 their identity has to be
established and they have to pick up cards.

Re: Timeframe for PR Card
Hi PMM, my cousin applied for immigration to Canada in July 2001, two months
before 9/11 (when all the security features were added into the new
immigration law, including the PR Card). He paid C$500 as application fee
and C$975 as ROLF. And nothing else.
Also, off CIC's web site, under PR Card/About the process/Fees:
-----------
New Immigrants
Beginning June 28, 2002, all new permanent residents automatically receive
their PR Card in the mail following their arrival in Canada. At the point of
entry into Canada, personal data is confirmed as part of the landing
process, and if complete, a Card is produced.
If you did not provide your mailing address to CIC at the point of entry,
please do so as soon as possible. You can provide this information on-line,
or you can contact the PR Card Call Centre at 1-800-255-4541. Please note
that if we do not receive your address within 180 days of the date of your
admission, you will need to re-apply for your PR Card and pay the applicable
fee.
Please notify us of any change in your mailing address as soon as possible.
You may send us your change of address by mail, or use the on-line Change of
Address service.
If you do not receive your PR Card within 30 days after sending CIC your
address, please contact our Call Centre.
