Does anyone know if there is a shortage of teachers in BC? I have heard conflicting advice - some say that BC is facing an acute shortage of teachers and others say that vacant posts are hard to come by.

Sadly, through much of Canada, both are true.

There is a severe shortage of teachers across the country ... were there actual
teaching positions available for them! The problem, like rest of the western world
these days is budget cuts. There is a distinct need to have more teachers in
classrooms to cope with class sizes and teaching certain subjects, but at the same
time, governments keep slashing education budgets such that the schools cannot hire
the teachers they desparately need.

Hi,

You may want to take a look at http://www.educationcanada.com/ . It lists a lot of
both teaching and none teaching positions available within the school districts. I
found it very useful when I was job searching.
