Re: Supervisa Fees

Thanks for your note. Could you please share a bit more infomation? Did you apply from within England or while in Canada? What were your fees if you applied from within England. I have reached out to the IRCC again. Expecting a call back today. Hope it will shed some more light on this situation. My son also spoke to his friends who seem to have applied for Supervisa from within Canada. More to be figured out. I will keep you all posted and in the mean time, THANK YOU so much for everyone's guidance and help.

I was living in the US at the time, therefore applied from there. We are dual UK/US citizens. I can’t remember the details, apart from the fact that we did the application ourselves, the medical was done in the US and we entered Canada before we obtained the visa. We entered as US citizens, therefore we did not need any type of electronic authorization. You cannot apply from within Canada. You must retain your home even though the visa allows you to stay in Canada for 10 years. The visa is renewable every 2 years during the 10 years. You must also purchase health insurance from a designated company, this does not cover annual tests/exams/vaccinations, ie mammogram, flu shot etc. Also check that it would cover treatment for a serious illness, ie cancer/cardiac etc.

A problem with the SV is that it does not allow you to live in Canada permanently. It is not a path to perm. residency or citizenship. We were lucky and applied for PR immediately. After our application the process became much more difficult and I believe it has been changed yet again. You need to be aware that after the 10 year period you may have to return to the UK. It’s a bit of a crap shoot. We were leaving the US anyway, so we had nothing to lose.

Re: Supervisa Fees

Hi,

Unfortunately as mentioned upthread by Christmasoompa and Former Lancastrian (a CBSA Officer) you can't apply for the SuperVisa from within Canada.

Your son will give you a letter of invitation and then you apply from outside of Canada.. provided he has all the documents required and you have the insurance and medical evidence, biometrics etc., it shouldn't take too long to get it.
Perhaps your son's friends applied for Parent/Grandparent Sponsorship for PR or they applied (and were given) an extention to the original visitor visa/ (or TRV) - or it was a long time ago and requirements have changed since they applied.

Do be aware that the RCIC 'information line' isn't called the 'Misinformation Line' for nothing.. they often give incorrect information... the clerks who respond by phone are not Visa Officers, it's a call centre and they are not allowed to give immigration advice.

Also be aware that you should not pay for immigration advice unless it's from an Immigration Consultant approved by RCIC> https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration...uthorized.html It's a simple application that you should be able to complete online / on paper.. our members can help you if you have questions :)

See also the OFFICIAL word about applying for the Super Visa .. :)

Apply for a super visa

You must apply for a super visa from outside Canada. You can apply online or on paper.
I'd strongly suggest putting in an application for an extension of Visitor Status as soon as you can - so you are able to stay longer... fingers crossed :fingerscrossed:
You can extend your current visitor status from within Canada, just not apply for the Supervisa.
:)
