Default Student - Restoration of Status

Hi,

I am a graduate international student studying at Concordia University
in Quebec. I recently went out of status but applied for restoration
of status about 2 weeks after.

My questions to anyone who can help is,

Will it be difficult for me to get a new student authorization???

Will the immigration officers make my life difficult for applying
late???

Or will i get the new student authorization without too many
problems???

This is the first time it has occured. I have renewed it several times
before since i did my Undergrad. degree in Canada.

Thanks in advance.

THe answers would all depend on circumstances and yhou have not given much
to go on. Why and how did you lose your status and what kind of school are
you hoping to attend.

Hi Jim,

I am already a graduate student in Concordia University and have been
studying for a year. I lost my status because, can you believe it, i
forgot renew it on time. I was going through a rough time in school
and it slipped my mind.

I am still a student. My CAQ is in order, it expires in August 2005.
However my student authorization expired earlier than that, on june
30th 2004. The reason it expired earlier is because i had applied to
extend it for one year, when i completed my undergrad, so that i could
do a qualifying year for a Masters degree. However at about the same
time, i was accepted to Concordia and when i applied for my CAQ, they
did not issue me with a new student authorization but told me to use
the one i had and renew it when it expired.

I am wondering if they will give me hell for making such a stupid
mistake. And if it will be hard to renew it. This is not the first
time i am renewing it and i have never been late before.

Thanks

I would suggest you talk to Patricia Hardt at the ISO, in H-653.

http://advocacy.concordia.ca/iso/

If she is not around, try talking to Jenny Calder.

They know folks in MRCI/C&IC, and can actually talk to them on the phone
and bail you out if they think you have a legit case.

Good luck,

You had better get on wtih renewing your status as there is a limited time
to do so. Go to the CIC website for the forms. Ravi also gave you good
advice and contacts at Concordia.

Hi Ravi and Jim,

I have already applied to renew my status. I did this 2.5 weeks ago
but i havent heard from them yet. According to their website, they
havent started processing my application.

My question is, will they give me alot of hell???? Thats what i want
to know.

Will i have to go to one of their offices to explain myself since i
have already explained why i was late in my application.

Thanks.

Students forgetting to renew their status was a big headache for them before
the new regulations. Your case seems clean enough so I would not worry.
You might get a "Dutch Uncle: speech but that is likely all.
