Start date for PR
We are awaiting decision as sponsored Parent & Civil Partner, Application accepted in 2016, sponsorship has been approved (June 16) and all requested medical & police documentation has been submitted (Mar 17),so we now get the 'In Process' message on the CIC online status checker.
We are unsure as to when to start seriously 'winding up our affairs' in UK as we are not clear about the time constraints on activating PR and actually getting resettled. We'd prefer not to move in the depths of winter and are very conscious that selling our house may take a while (3 years last time we did it) so are trying to work out a 'practical timeline'.
I believe, from reading the Forum, Wiki and CIC information that a successful applicant for PR has to 'validate' the PR by 'landing' and this must be done whilst within the validity of the medical, either the original or last one done, am I correct in this assumption?
If this is correct it could (using currently valid medicals and optimism of CIC) mean we need to land next spring at the latest, or by spring 2018 if we have to get new medicals done (do Police Checks, which are also valid for 12 months, need to be renewed also?)
What is less clear to me is when the 2 years in 5 years residence qualification actually triggers. Is it from the date of PR consent by CIC or the date of landing (or some less obvious date )
The whole process seems to be confusing - deliberately or otherwise - and an example of why 'common sense' should really be called 'uncommon sense'
Thanks for any and all consideration of the questions and advice on answers.

Re: Start date for PR
The date for official granting of PR status and the 730 day residency obligation starts on the day you do the landing at a POE or inland CIC office.

Thanks for that FL, a weight off our backs on the start date. Since you didn't comment on it I gather the medical validity is a determinant of how long we have to land.
Thanks again

Hi
1. The COPR (visa) will be valid for 1 year from the date of the medical or the expiry of the passport, whichever comes first.
