Default Spouse Sponsorship - Can do while getting UI?

I have a simple question, can a Canadian citizen sponsor a spouse
while not having a job and being on UI (unemployment insurance) ? I
tried to look on the Immigration Canada site but could not find an
answer. Thanx,
Ronald

I am not 100% sure but i dont think EI counts as welafre because you have
paid into it while working and thus its a support of yoru own creting in a
way instead of just taking state welfare.
Howeverit would be a good idea to have some sort of a job when applying but
i think as long as you show you have recently had one and are in the process
of getting a new one you shoul dbe ok.

The income requirements is based on the last 12 months. If you had a job recently I guess you would be OK. However they assess your abililty to financially support your spouse over the requisite period, so a sponsorship application with the sponsor claiming EI might not look too good!

Receiving EI is not a disqualification in sponosring a spouse.
