Hi all,

I am currently on a student Visa in the US ( have been so for the past 6 years), and
I am working using my Practical Training work permit.

For various reasons, I would like to immigrate to Canada, and I have been talking to
a company in Ottawa. They would like to hire me, however they want me to start
working for them right away. So instead of going for the PR visa, they want me to
first come to Canada on a temporary Worker visa using the Software Pilot Program, and
once in Canada apply for the PR status.

I have a BS in Computer Engineering from a US University( graduated in 1999), and 2
years of relevant US Experience.

I would be very grateful if someone can answer my questions:

1) How long would it take to get the Employment Authorization through Software Pilot
Program from the US?

2) Since I dont need the validation from HR canada, Can I just drive upto the border
post and show the required documents to be given the Temporary Worker Visa?

3) Or do I need to apply in person/via mail at Buffalo? If so how long would that
process take? ( I have heard that I can go up to Buffalo and get it done in a
day.. Is that true? )

4) What are the other steps that I can do on my side to expedite the process?
e.g . Do I need to take the Medical? ( From my understanding I dont have to do
the medical)

If anyone has gone through a smiliar experience, I would appreciate their comments,
account of their experiences.

I have read lot of threads dealing with US vs Canada, I have already made that
decision SO that is not an issue, just wondering if anyone can give me any "words
of wisdom" to avoid any pitfalls during the transition.

Thank you all who participate in the NG.

You only need the job offer letter (if you are a software professional) to apply for
employment authorisation. There is no need for validation from HR canada.

Don't know about other questions though. I had a friend (software guy) who got his EA
the same day he applied, and he did not have to do medicals.

Shibu.
