Default SINP - how soon can we make the move?!

Hi all,

We are going to be putting in our SINP application this week and wondered whether anybody knows if there is a way we can come out once this is done or whether we have to wait until our nomination comes though?

The current processing times on the SINP site are listed as 12.8 months, which is obviously a bit of a way off, especially when we are so excited about the prospect of finally getting out to Canada!

Has anybody gone out on a temporary work permit or anything while they have been waiting for their application to be processed or are we just going to have wait patiently?!

Thanks in advance!

BexM

You could go on a TWP, but you'll either need first stage approval, or a LMO to get a 'normal' TWP.

Other than that, you could only move as a visitor.

The dreaded LMO! Ok, thanks for getting back to me. Looks as though there's going to be a certain about of waiting time, however we do it. Oh well, we've waited this long, what's a few more months...?!

Every situation is different. You can look at my timeline and see but the most important thing is to have all your docs correct when submitting them.. We moved within 6 weeks of deciding to come here with an ALMO, and just got our passport request today for PR, through the SINP process, so 19 months from start to finish, but I didn't submit our SINP docs for 5 months so it could have been a lot quicker. It depends on what you intend to do when u come here, and if you already have started the job process.

Thanks for that info missieleah. Another question though, what is an ALMO? I am familiar with LMOs so am assuming this is a variation on that, but haven't come across it before? Is it something the employer organises and do you know, generally, if these are always processed as quickly as yours was?

We already have an approved SINP job offer, and our application to the SINP is due to be submitted on Wednesday but I wasn't sure if we would need to wait until we had our nomination before we could move to canada or if we could do it sooner.

No such things as ALMO or LMOs anymore they are now a LMIA and no more accelerated LMIAs.
A person who has been nominated by a province or territory for permanent residence and is employed or has a job offer * from an employer based in that province may be issued a work permit without requiring an LMO.
In order for this provision to be applied, the application for the work permit must include a letter from the provincial or territorial government that confirms:
 that the foreign national has been nominated for permanent residence by the province.
 that the nominated individual is urgently required by the provincial-based employer who has
made the foreign national a job offer.
The duration of the work permit should be equivalent to the duration of the job offer.
“PNP” should be entered in the “Remarks” field to facilitate differentiating between the PNP and the TFW-PS provincial/territorial selection types.

You don't need SINP approval to move if you have an LMO. An ALMO is an accelerated LMO, takes about 5-10 working days for the employer to receive, rather than the 6-10 weeks standard one. You get your TWP when u land, and you can wait for your SINP to be received while you are here. There is some restriction as far as I can remember that if you apply for your SINP from Outland, but u can't remember exactly what it is. If you do decide to come in a LMO, you will have to change all your contact info with SINP.

As FL has already pointed out, ALMO's don't exist anymore, so normal LMO timescales of 12-16 weeks would apply to the OP.

Former Lancastrian - thanks for your message. So basically we still need to wait for our nomination to come through before we can get a temporary work permit. From your message it looks as though we need that before we can make any move.

Missieleah - we don't have an LMO, the employer said she favours the SINP route so looking like that won't be an option, either as the old LMO or the new LMIA system.

Thanks both for your speedy responses!

The new LMIAs cost an employer $1000 per worker. Basically the Province either issues a letter of sponsorship by them or the employer is given a positive LMO until your PR has been finalized. Normally people who are already working in Canada are issued with the support letters from the Province nominating them.
There are 2 different types of PNP nominations those under the TFW Provincially Selected (no nomination certificate) or nominated by the province with a certificate/letter of nomination. The 2 are different. See pages 57 & 58 of this link
