Showing proof of funds

Hi,

Is it mandatory that the amount that I enter in the form IMM0008 should match with
the proof of funds that I am sending with my application? For example, if I enter
$15,000 in the form, can I send proof of about $13,000 now? This is because I expect
to have 15,000 by the time my immigrant visa is approved, but as of now I can show
only $13,000. BTW, $13,000 is more than the minimum that I need to show. So is it OK?

Also, can there be a problem if I don't have the *exact* amount when moving to
Canada? If I wrote 15,000 on the form, but I have 14,500 when getting the visa, can
that be a problem (assuming 14,500 covers the minimum for me and my dependents).

TIA

Hi:

You may indicate that you will have approximately $15,000 at the time your
application is approved.

The CIC guideline for settlement funds is $10,000 CDN per principal applicant, and
$2,000 CDN per dependent. Although this is not a mandatory requirement, many visa
officers treat it as such.

Yours truly, Ingrid Y. Chen, B.A., LL.B.

Demonstration of the minimum required amount at the time of landing would typically
suffice. It is preferable, however, that you demonstrate the funds stated in your
application at the time of landing as your application was approved on the basis of
an assumption of such assets. Demonstrating possession of that amount at the time of
landing removes the possibility that an immigration official at the port of entry may
question its sufficiency.

I need to know two specific things:

1. Is it possible to apply for a tourist visa and visit Canada before using the
landing documents?
2. Is it possible to show sufficient amount of settlement funds (say 25% more than
what is required) and disclose the fact that other assets are held elsewhere (with
written docs)?

Cheers
