Default 'Senior' Manager Help!

Hey guys,

I am having trouble with understanding how exactly you qualify or do not qualify under the Managerial criteria in the Intra-Company Transfer visa.

I have read all of the guidelines and the amazingly helpful Wiki, but wondered if anyone had any further advice on this?

Essentially, my job offer in Canada is to fulfil the role of Manager within a Retail Store that generates over $30 dollars a year. The team I will be responsible for includes a team of 8 other managers, who in turn lead a team of over 120 employees. We serve over 2 million customers a year in this store.

My worry is that the ambiguity in the wording of middle manager/first line manager etc will prevent me from securing the visa. I have the complete ability to hire, fire, promote etc, however I am of course working for a Manager above me who is our Area Manager.

How stringent are the Senior Management criteria? I work for the worlds largest technology company (no prizes for guessing who) & fear that the size of the company will in fact make my role sound less senior than it actually is?

Please help!

Thanks,

Andy.

You sound like a senior manager to me, even if your store does only generate $30 a year...

I did an intra-company transfer, and I think a lot depends on the letter provided by your Company.... have a word with HR and tell them to stress the importance of having you there. You need to stress the importance of your experience in the job and the need to be up and running the minute you start.

Good luck.

Thanks for your reply.

Did you intra company transfer through the managerial route also?

HR have already provided me with letters however they state my role but not the importance of being there right away. I'll see if they can add that!

As I understand it, you need to have specialized knowledge or expertise unavailable in the Canadian branch of your company and in Canada in general.

I doubt if managers of retail stores qualify.

I think they applied under the "specialist knowledge" option. However, that "specialist knowledge" was based on our Company Procedures, not my profession. That could well apply to you, too. Although there are probably plenty of store managers in Canada, how many know exactly what's needed by your Company straight away... that's what you need HR to focus on.

Good luck.
