Russian degree question for Mr Miller/Humphries
My question is about education points..I have a "Diploma" as it says in the translation, although it represents 5 years study at University in Russia..giving me 18 years full-time studies..now in England this is regarded as a Master of Arts degree even though it just says Diploma on the transcript...will I get full points or will they need something that tells them yes, this is equivelent to Masters? In Russia, if you get a Bachelors it just says "did not complete Higher Education" on the diploma.

From my own experience, regardless of how you assess your diploma, immigration will consider it a Bachelors degree. Russian 5 year university diploma does not qualify as Masters.

That's what I feared, but does Mr Miller or Humpries have any other input?
Does anyone else have experience of the Russian University 5 year graduate diploma? Thanks

It is impossible to say for sure what it is without knowing all details of
the university and program completed - nobody can draw any conclusions
without it. But if it doesn't say explicitly that it is a Master's degree
then most likely it is at best a Bachelor's. But again - nothing for sure
without knowing details and you should simply contact your university to
find out what exactly your diploma is. Note that processing officer will not
play any guessing games and will not give you any benefit of the doubt - it
is you who must conclusively prove claimed credentials.

Well, its a diploma for five years university studies...if you leave after three you get a diploma saying "higher education not completed", if you complete five years its a diploma like mine and if you do two more years then its a Doctorate Diploma.

I also studied in Russia (5 years university). US education consulting
organization rated it as a US Master's degree equivalent, which I had
submitted to apply for H1-B in US and it was accepted by US INS. I had
submitted the same diploma and equivalence certificate for Canada
Immigration and it was accepted as a master. Hopefully, this helps.

question for Mr Miller/Humphries
If I get an organization to assess my credential is it better to use a Canadian one like BC's International Credential Assessment Service or Alberta's IQAS? Or one in England would be OK for London CHC?
