I am wondering if someone can guide me on what is best thing to do.

After I get PR approved in Canada, I believe one has to live in Canada minimum 6
months to satisfy the residency requirements. I have a very good job in USA just
accross the border and do not want to quit it right away. I would like to phase out
slowly. I will start business in Canada but will want to continue working in USA for
some time until business is established. I do have someone in Canada to take care of
business on a regular basis and I can go there intermitently.

I am wondering what happens if after landing in Canada, I drive to USA, keep working
in detroit, and go back and forth to Canada for a few days on a monthly basis. What
is the procedure they go through on the border at for example Detroit. Do they keep
record of everything, or if I have a valid US visa in my passport, with my landing
papers, I can come and go any time and still keep my residensy in Canada.

When going back to Canada, what kind of record they keep on the border???

How would they know if I stayed in USA for one day or one month or one year for
that matter???

Do both the US and Canadian side put stamps on the passport at each visit to and from
each country ???

six months in every year ! please note that.

I am now eligible for citizenship in Canada, however I am still working out the exact
dates for the citizenship application.

It took me almost a month to locate my three year old records to find out when I went
to the US and came back.

However I do know that your car's plate is snapped every time you cross the
border. There is no stamp on my Indian passport and on the I94 that I held as a
H1B visa holder.

As long as you maintain your permanent residence in Canada, I do not think it matters
if you cross over for a few days to the US.

I would strongly advise against maintaining a criminal record in either of the two
countries though @#$!

Please pass on any info in this regard to this NG.

Best of luck.

Hemant.

CAR PLATE IS SNAPED WHEN YOU ENTER FROM USA TO CANADA OR WHEN YOU ENTER FROM CANADA TO US? or Both the ways? What is the proof that it was YOU who was drving it, if they just snap the car Plate only?
