Hello,

Soon I will be able to apply for the Canadian citizenship, and I am very interested
to hear from anyone from Ukraine who has already aquired the Canadian citizenship. I
heard rumours that the renunciation of the Ukrainian citizenship is not an automatic
and easy process - is it true? What steps should be taken to get rid of the Ukrainian
citizenship? Does it take long? As far as I can see, the best time to start this
process is after getting the Canadian citizenship - is it correct?

Unless I'm badly mistaken,Canada doesn't require you to renounce your original
citizenship when being granted Canadian citizenship.Some countries do (like the
United States) but I don't think Canada does.

Ukranian law may or may not provide that you lose your Ukranian citizenship if you
obtain another.If you're curious about this,you'd be wise to check with the nearest
Ukranian Embassy/Consulate.They'd be able to give you definitive info. If you don't
care about it,then there's no need to so do.

However,if you actually wish to lose your Ukranian citizenship, there's likely to be
a way.But you'd be wise to wait until you've officially been granted Canadian
citizenship before you take any steps in that direction.

Hi:

Canada's Citizenship Act permits dual citizenship. This is in recognition of Canada's
multicultural heritage, among other things. You do not have to renounce your
Ukrainian citizenship.
