Regarding Immigration
Hello Mr Miller,
I will be completing my Masters program at University of Waterloo, Canada by
November 02. I applied for immigration under the skilled worker category in
June 2001. My file is awaiting interview scheduling at the Detroit consulate
since May 2002.
1. When can I anticipate my intweview date from the Detroit Consulate?
2. If my interview is set after November 02, will extra points be granted for the
Masters degree gained (at the interview)?
3. Will I be assessed under the old or the new system during the interview? I am here
in Canada for the last two years under student authorization.
Expecting your reply,
Thanks Venk

Re: Regarding Immigration
1. Check with Detroit's consulate website here for cases awaiting interview:
http://-
www.can-am.gc.ca/menu-e.asp?act=v&did=1448&mid=8&cat=116&typ=1
and here for those already scheduled for interview:
http://-
www.can-am.gc.ca/menu-e.asp?act=v&did=1456&mid=8&cat=116&typ=1
The average wait for the interview in Detroit from the day file is received by the
consulate is lately 8 to 10+ months. Note that actual transfer of file from Buffalo
to interviewing consulate takes place about 2 - 3 months after the notice about such
transfer is mailed.
2. If your interview and selection assessment are after you get your Master's and
you'll provide evidence then it may be taken into account.
3. If your interview is held **and** selection decision is made prior to March 31,
2003 then you'll be assessed under the old selection criteria - if after March
2003 then you will be assessed against new selection criteria although with lower
transitional pass mark of 70 points as your case was received in 2001.
