Default Really basic question on Bank Drafts

We are applying for PR for two adults (me and OH) under FSW.

Am I right that when sending in the application I need a Canadian dollar bank draft for $1100 ($550 each)? I know this is really simple but I want to check that I don't need to add anything else on at this stage.

Also, can the bank draft be cashable at any bank, or do I need one that can be cashed at a certain bank? In the UK I bank with First Direct, so I guess their bank draft would be cashed at HSBC in Canada.

The draft has to be in Canadian Dollars drawn against a bank in Canada not a uk account.

It took a few minutes for Barclays to click on here to what I meant but we got there!

Re the amounts I think it is correct, but I also sent the RPRF with the processing fees, so cannot confirm 100% for your situation

Good luck

Hi there,
We were a bit confused by this intially! What we discovered is that the bankers draft needs to be payable in Canadian dollars and has to be drawn on a bank in Canada, the only bank I found to do this for us were Lloyds TSB.
Like yourself my first thought was to try HSBC but they weren't able to do this for us. Lloyds were very helpful, they only charged £20 and we had the draft within a couple of days.
Hope this helps,
Kid regards,
Tamsin

Im not sure if the amounts have changed since we applied 07 ours was $550 each
$150 dependant under 22 think that was for the older child ? we have a younger one as well thats coming,
our application was returned for the RPRF $490
Even though it said you have a choice to pay this and i know others haven't paid untill much later, that was what happened to us ?

good luck with everything

Hi Mark

I'm with First Direct. Just ring them up and ask for draft in Canadian dollars and they will arrange for it over the phone and will send it to your home address or a local branch.

I have just sent one for 1100 dollars for myself and my husband.Ordered it Weds night and got it Friday morning. It's just HSBC cheque.

Hope this helps!

Lucy

Nat west gave me a bankers draft, when I went in to order I took the section of the guide which mentioned what it at to be. No problem there.

I paid the full amount, inc. Right of Residence fee and they cashed it all in Sydney and sent me a receipt for it---this then I will photocopy and send off so that everything is paid up front and you have proof.

We got our drafts from HSBC £20 fee, they take about 4 working days then just pick em up in the local branch
We sent in $1400 with our PR application $550 each for me & the wife $150 each for our two children.
Got our med requests through a few weeks ago and they then asked for RPRF $490 each for me & the wife.

I just ordered my CAD bankers draft with First Direct. It's amazing that from the comfort of my lounge I ordered the draft, and it will be delivered to my home on Tuesday. They assured me that CIC shouldn't have any problems cashing it in Canada, so hopefully that's okay.

It cost me £650 so there's no going back now......
