Default Question: Sponsoring Spouse, Mother, and Bro

Hi! I just landed in Toronto last June 2002. I have since gotten a job
thus already have a steady source of income. I am going back to my country
in October to get married to my fiancee. When I come back to Toronto in
December, I wanted to sponsor:

1. My spouse.
2. My mother.
3. My brother, who is a 21 yr old student. (He turns 22 by Aug 2003).

Will I be able to sponsor all 3 at the same time? How do I show income if I
don't have a Canadian Income Tax Return yet? Will my company's letter of
employment be enough?

Thanks!

Marc

You will certainly be able to sponsor your wife but your mother and
brother will have to wait until you have one year of earned income from
Canada.

remember that the income level in the LICO table must have already been
earned, its not potential income. So just having a good job isnt enough you
have to wait until you have earned the level so if you had a job that paid
say $5000 a month you would have to wait say 8 months till you had earned
$40K if that was the LICO.
In the case of your fiancee it depends what class you use, if you try and
use conjugal partner class then there is no LICO level so you can start that
straight away.
If you try a H&C finacee as teh class was dissolved you may have to meet
LICO as you did in the old class.
for your parents you definatly do, and you can only sponsor your brother if
he is a dependant of your parents.

Earned income = Before Tax income?

So which one is more accurate? Jim says to wait exactly a year. Drew says
to wait X number of months - depending on the salary level.

Thanks a bunch!

1. yes. use gross income (before tax)...

2. they both are.. you have to have earned the minimum as per the lico tables to be able to sponsor that many people... this income must be from canadian sources and must be earned within a 12 month period before sponsorship, which means, you can sponsor in the 6th month if you meet the lico minimum in the 5th month, but you cant use the income you made 13 months ago as part of the calculation... it must be earned in the 12 months preceeding the sponsorship...

best form obviously is a notice of income tax assessment form the ccra... other supporting proof can be pay stubs, bank direct deposits by the employer, a statement of income from a certified accountant etc...
