Default question for experts. Andrew :)

well we got an update and the document recieved from the buffalo office says "file put away, in line for processing".

and further says, file wont be looked at till jan 1 05. its been about a year and a half(little over) since we applied under the investors category. so my question is, when they say file put away, in line for processing, is that good new? bad news? thanks guys.

It is a "no news".

I doubt that you received "document from Buffalo" saying that "file won't be looked at till jan 1 05"

How is the document called? Are you sure you got it from Buffalo? Does it say in exact words that "file wont be looked at till jan 1 05"?

the lawyer we have had asked for a "Access to Information", The notation reads "file put away, in line for processing". and he further said "The current date for the file to be "brought forward" in the Buffalo office is January 1, 2005."

wow almost 1.5 years and no news. how long does this take
thanks andrew

This is what I thought...

Your lawyer doesn't have much idea about BF date - it is simply a reminder set by processing officer to check your file if no other activity occurs before such date. It doesn't mean and never was designed to mean that file won't be looked at until that date.

1.5 years with no initial assessment from Buffalo doesn't sound good as we are already getting passport requests in cases filed with Buffalo in late summer 2003, after getting assessment notices between May and August this year.

I have no idea what is causing delay in your case but usually it is poorly prepared application package.

Did you see entire CAIPS printout (this is what your lawyer got after applying for it under access to information)? It may tell something more than just BFD.
