Hi,

I have a fixed term (4 year) offer of employment in Canada. My employer has already
obtained the job validation on my behalf from HRCC. The document says that it is
valid for 4 years (the initial duration of guaranteed employment as given in the job
offer letter).

My question is, when I apply for my Employment Authorization and Temporary visa at
the Canadian Immigration (visa processing) Office, can I request for a 4 year
Employment Authorization and multiple-entry Temporary visa?

I have heard that both the Employment Authorization and Temporary visa are only
issued for a maximum of 1 year duration, and these must be renewed every year if
necessary. Please let me know if this is true. And if these need to be renewed every
year, would I have to return to my home country, or is it possible to get this done
internally from within Canada?

Thanks for your help!

PS: Please post to this newsgroup itself and not to my email address as I do not
check this email address very often. Thanks.

Hi:

You can request an employment authorization for 4 years. However, individuals
generally are granted an employment authorization for one or two year time periods.

If you wish to continue your employment in Canada once your employment authorization
expires, you could always request an extension.

Yours truly, Ingrid Y. Chen, B.A., LL.B.

I have had Employment authorizations of two years but I do not know what is
the maximum.

It is relatively starigthtforward applying to have the Employment Authorization
renewed within Canada. Just check that the Job Offer Validation is still current as
it may expire within its own term and you will not be informed. You would need to get
your employers to apply to HRD-C for a renewal a few months before applying to
Immigration to renew the Employment Authorization, which you should do a few months
before the first one expires to avoid any unnecessary worry

It is quite possible that a 2 year EA will be issued and it can be extended in Canada
for 2 years. There is a provision in the manuals for issuing long term EAs and SAs,
but not all CICs seem to follow these guidelines. You should request a multiple entry
CVV valid for 5 years when you apply.
