We received our PRs in 2008 and moved to Ontario, unfortunately we had to rush back after a few weeks because of a family disaster, now we have had a few years to settle things down we would like to move back to Canada, unfortunately our PRs will run out 2012 and we have never really stayed much time in Canada to allow for a simple PR re-newal, whats our quickest way to get new PRs? or is it a full re-application with that horrendous wait?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

You may still be able to salvage your PR status - as you've been advised in a previous thread, you must spend 2 years out of every 5 in Canada to maintain your PR status.
So when exactly did you 'land' and how much time have you spent in Canada since?
If it's lost, then you'll have to reapply, but be warned that things have changed considerably since you last applied. Assuming you applied as a Skilled Worker, the good news is that the wait time has dropped to around a year, but the bad news is that only 29 occupations are now eligible without a job offer. So you may not be able to just reapply.
HTH, good luck.

Unfortunately the average processing time has increased from 13 to 16 months according to the CIC website :-(
Still better than 36-48 months thou

We've already seen some who applied mid last year have med requests, so they're looking on target to have PR about 10 months after applying - way before those that applied earlier in the year before the list change. And obviously very annoying to those that applied in early 2007 and are still awaiting their med requests over four years later!

Don't forget that's historical though, and will be based on those that applied after the new rules in 2008, but before the list change in 2010.

Is there any way you can complete the 2 years? When in 2012 does your visa expire?
Failing that you will have to re-apply. However, currently post-June-2010 are looking at around 12 months for visa, and that's for the early birds from last year who had a long wait at the start. For some it's probably only going to be around 6 months.
Since it's probably impossible to get an entire application in now before the new set of MI's come out on 1st July, I'd wait until then and see if you have work experience in any of the occupations they announce (there are currently 29 but they may announce changes to this on 1st July).
Failing that, you will need to secure a job offer and then apply under FSw2, or look at provincial nomination.
Wayne.
