PR Card, Money & Landing Questions
Hi all,
Thanks to all the members in this NG for exchanging valuable
information.
I would be travelling to Toronto on August 3rd as an immigrant from
India. I have some queries regarding the following -
PR Card -
1. How long does it take to get the PR Card after applying? please
quantify in number of days
2. What photograph size is required for the PR Card, so that I can
carry one along with me?
Money -
1. Would a statement from an international bank (Citibank) suffice to
satisfy the immigration officer that I have enough funds? The money
would be in an account and I have an International ATM Cum Debit Card,
which in other words would mean that I can withdraw the money anytime
I want in Canada.
2. I have read that CAN 12,000 is the money required for one person -
is it correct?
Landing Questions -
1. What are the usual landing questions that I would face from the
immigration and customs officals?
2. I have read that I have to fill up a form wherein I have to declare
what goods I have brought along and other goods that would follow.
Where do I get the form beforehand (any website)?
Any small information to any/all of the queries above would highly be
appreciated.
Thanks in advance to you all.

Re: PR Card, Money & Landing Questions
Frazer Smith... that does not sound like a typical name from India.
How did you get this name?

Re: PR Card, Money & Landing Questions
Dave,
Read your history or geography.
About 3% of Indians are Christian, which is about 30 million people.
So there are roughly as many Christian Indias as Canadians!
FYI, the British ruled India for 200 years. Alongside them there where the
Portuguese, French,
and even Syrians. The first Christian in India was St. Thomas, who went
there around 50AD. His followers
(called Syrian Christians) have been practicing Christianity in the southern
coast of India ever since.

Re: PR Card, Money & Landing Questions
Frazer,
According to http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pr-card/index.html,
"...On June 28, 2002, CIC began to mail PR Cards to new permanent residents
of Canada as part of the immigration process...". According to some members
in this newsgroup it should take about a month after landing.
As regards the documents you need to bring after landing, please read the
info in the URL.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/newcome...ection-02.html
BTW, there is no particular form do declare the household good you will be
bringing. But it is a good idea to type such a form and clearly list each of
the goods you are bringing.
All the best,
