Default PR Card

I applied for PR card in May 2003 but I still waiting for the Pick Up date, I am outside canada, My friend called the CIC office and asked them whether it's ready or not, They said it's ready and wait for the Pick up letter in 60 - 90 days. U know I Dec 31st is too close now, So could u please guide me that can I visit to canada to Pick up my PR card without the pick up letter or not.

If anyone of u has gone through the same process, pls let me know.

Why you bother at all. You shouldn't even apply for PR Card while abroad.
You should apply for PR Card once you are back in Canada for good - to get
back you need to apply for Travel Document through Canadian visa post.

Thanks for ur prompt reply. But sir, I need a PR card not only for Travelling but for other purposes later on like to prove my PR status etc .(As u written down in earlier posts).

So please let me know whether I can simply go to CIC office to pick it up or not without the Pick up letter. My situtation is I applied for a leave , so I want to utilize it now, later on my schedule will be tough as I m working onto IT project which is going to be implemeted in August 2003.

No, you can't just go to CIC office - you will be notified when to come. PR
Cards are being produced in Nova Scotia and once issued are delivered to
your local CIC office. Only when your Card is ready to be picked up you'll
be notified.

Note that having a PR Card doesn't waive the requirement to meet 2/5
residency obligation. If you have PR Card but won't meet 2/5 residency
obligation your PR status will be lost anyway.

So, what's the problem? PR Card is useless outside Canada (except for travel
back to Canada), so what you want to use it for? You need visa, PR Card or
Travel Document to board a commercial transportation to come to Canada - in
your case all you need is TD. Once you are back in Canada for good you can
apply for PR Card.

When I picked mine up back in January, I had to show the letter they sent, my passport, landing papers, and an additional photo ID (driver's license, health card, etc.).
