It is usually by Royal Mail registered post. If you are waiting for them it may be an idea to e-mail London, mention the issue with the postal strike and ask if there is another way to get your passports back without having to wait until the strike is over.

There is nothing leaving the UK for Canada at the moment, but London are being PANTS about this - their web site says how to sort out getting documents to them during this time but NOT A THING about what to d if you are waiting for documents from them. In our case, the meds will have a limited time to comply, which makes it doubly important that we get them some other way in case the strike goes on.
It seems the Canadian government has passed legislation and is about to implement it this morning (11a.m our time) to force the postal workers back to work. Even so, there is a massive backlog and this ill take time to clear, of course.
The best you can do is send a case specific e-mail, which is what we have done and hope they don't do their usual thing of just ignoring it.
