Angry the post...

We received pnp approval a few weeks ago and we got everything together to send off for PR to Buffalo, so all the papers, police checks, money order, pnp approval letter was posted recorded delivery on 10th Aug.... it has still not got there and now the post office says it must be lost. They have opened up an enquiry but I dont have much hope at the moment... I will be gutted if it has been lost.:curse:

Why post office?????

Who, especially someone who is in this forum for some time, is using post office for such important package? Never heard of FedEx, DHL, UPS, or TNT?

Which is exactly how we've sent all our documentation in the last 3 years Sarahad and never had a problem, so looks like you were just unlucky with this one.

Don't beat yourself up about it - take a deep breath and start collating the material again - did you have copies of everything? I'll send karma (or similar) to your package and hope it turns up.

well yeah we have all copies as it is photocopies you send anyway... but was original police checks, so would have to apply to UK for those again, money order for over $2000 so need to cancel that and get another, need to get pics done again and also would have to see how we go about getting another PNP approval letter as you have to send original of that.
They have opened up an enquiry and said I should get a call within 3-5 days but I am just feeling more and more anxious now.
Another thing, theres two ladies who work in our local post office, one I usually post with as she works there the most and parcels always get there. The other one I posted a parcel to my neice it never got there, and the PR stuff was also posted with her and now this... I wont be posting stuff when she is working in there again!

IMO you do your profession and business no good at all by posting such terse and critical comments.

Never ever use UPS ground for trans-border shipments, as you have most likely found.

Yeah - unfortunatley the sender used UPS when we asked them not too. As the sender had proof of posting PAYPAL weren't interested, UPS said they had delivered, we argued they hadn't they said we would have to get a crime number from RCMP as a theft had taken place, we did that and called UPS back with the number, they said they would pay up - we have been chasing them for nearly 6 months.

Originally the sender was really helpful but now he's just bored - he has his money and he's not interested anymore - can't blame him really.

Can really understand why Ebay hasn't taken off here and why people are so worried about using it.

Anyhow Hijacked this thread enough and sorry for the rant

Just curious, did you indicate what was in the parcel sent or assign a value? If its a matter of having to pay to recieve your police reports again, the post office should be able to refund you the price if they cant find it.. small consolation for time and stress but atleast you'd not be dishing out twice because someone at the post office buggered the job up.

EDIT just wanted to add that courrier companies can just as easily lose packages, the only benefit I saw to using them is that *sometimes* it gets there faster then the normal post office and *sometimes* the delivery people are more stringent with handing it over to the recipients and requiring a signature as proof they delivered, other then that, no matter what the method, there is always the chance it gets stolen/misplaced/misdelivered/damaged/blown up when the delivery van fell off a cliff etc etc... sucks but until they invent transporters like in Star Trek (which still went wonky every so often anyway *lol*) then its something we all have to deal with.

Sending you some karma, I know its not going to help get your package back but atleast you'll get a little something from this stressfull situation

Im not really bothered about having to pay again , it is more the time it will take... just adds extra weeks on to the wait doesnt it. I was just told to write 'printed material' on the parcel.

Probably because the UK postal office system is still the best postal system in the world. It is extremely reliable and couriers aren't generally used except by large companies. The average person in the UK doesn't really have access to courier companies, and they are not necessary anyway. The Post Office and Royal Mail are more than adequate for almost everything.

I tend to second that Ben, Canada Post would take 2-3 week days (no Sat deliveries/processing) to deliver a letter from Montreal TO Montreal! A letter from Montreal to BC or AB would often take 7-10 week days to arrive. Since living in the UK the past 3 years, I was stunned that a letter could get to its UK destination within 2 working days, sending 1 first class letter from Manchester to Northern Ireland was taking an average of 3 working days. Letters to home (Montreal QC) take about 4-5 working days and I know its not Canada Post's end thats making it that fast!!
