Default Please recommend a Good immigration Lawyer.

Hello Friends,
I am here in the United States, on H1B. So is my wife. We are both
computer engineers with ample experience, and have deceided to settle
in Canada.

So now the question,

Can somebody please recommend, by there own experience, or by
experience of immigration attempts of somebody they know, immigration
lawyers or consultants. I do know that this question has been asked
hunderds of times on this newsgroup, but i havent really found an
answer yet.

I am thinking that based on me and my wifes background, immigration to
Canada should be straight forward (I certainly hope thats true), but
hiring somebody would give us a peace of mind. That way, we would know
that the papers we are submitting are going through another
"experienced" pair of eyes.

Any help would be appriciated,
thanks
samir

I hope you have backup plans after immigration to Canada - Because if the
current IT job market is any indication - both of you could take anyway from
7-12 months to find a starter job.

Ah! But that would be true even if i returned to India. Also,
returning to India after 6 years in US, with all the furniture et al.
is going to be another pain.
Plus I might even get to work "@home" (telecommute) for my current
employer.

Hmmm.. All the rosy pictures we paint... Sigh!

thanks for the reply and the early warning...

Returning to India - I am not sure is that big a pain. I've had Indian
friends in US (some of them are GC holders) return to India with furniture
and earning extremely good with MNCs. But that is again a personal choice
and decision.

Do check out tax/other implications. U'll have to report to IRS and Revenue
Canada.

    > Hmmm.. All the rosy pictures we paint... Sigh!
Don't get me wrong - I love Canada. Having been an immigrant myself - I
believe in making fellow applicants aware of reality & struggle. Some of
people I've come across - were mid-level managers in home countries with
kids and struggled to find a basic / entry level position. The same goes for
Physicians/Doctors from Third World countries - you can find them working as
cab drivers or waiters. This stuff is NOT told to applicant by Immigration
Lawyers or Consultants. And beware - there are some fraud ones out there
too - check the NG.

Go with the reputed ones - like Miller, Cohen, Humphries etc.

    > thanks for the reply and the early warning...
Glad to be able to assist you.

1 if you want to take the services go for Andrew Miller
2. No IT jobs in Toronto or Canada, my 2 friend immigrated to Canada 1 year back both worked in US on H1B and are software engineer more than 12 years Exp and certifications like MSCE 2K, CNE, MCT, CCNA, could not find any job in IT in Toronto, they are going back to India and one of them got good job in Bombay. Don’t waste your savings to immigrate to Canada.
Go to www.path2usa.com
and find info how to take your belongings to India
Also visit www.return2india.com you will find info how to ship your luggage.

in India IT is much better you can easily get a good job in Hydra bad, Bang lore, Delhi, Pune and Bombay.
Don’t waste your money paying to lawyer and fees to Canada immigration; you will realize this after you get PR of Canada after 1 year if you apply now.
If possible get Visitor Visa for Canada then go to Toronto and find the reality, only labor jobs are available & 7-8 per hour.
For living Canada is very good but no jobs at this time
