PLEASE HELP: Customs Question

PLEASE HELP: Customs Question
Hi,
We landed in Calgary yesterday on temporary work permits, we had our work permits issued at the immigration section of Calgary airport and so far everything was ok.
We then went to the customs area and made attempts to provide our goods accompanying lists and goods to follow, we were told that we did not need to provide any lists for goods to follow because we were only temporarily here (2 years) and that we would not be taxed on the belongings that we brought with us so long as they left canada after the two years.
Can anyone shed any light on this, i was not assigned a file number and they do not have a copy of my list of goods to follow - what does this mean then when my shipment arrives?? will i be able to claim the shipment without any problems??
Please Help,
Simone

Re: PLEASE HELP: Customs Question
True, you're not settlers, you don't have a permanent status in Canada, you're just bringing your personal belongings in until you leave again (or become PRs if that's your plan - at which time you would present your GTF list).

You won't have any problem. the same thing happened to us. The customs lady described our situation as a loophole. We picked up our container 4 weeks later without any problem either.

Re: PLEASE HELP: Customs Question
If you are in Canada on a TWP, and you successfully get PR whilst in Canada, in order to land, you will have to leave Canada, and come back (you may decide at the time just to drive over the US border) when you come back you will present your GTF list as well as visas etc.
As stated above, you are on a TWP, so you are expected to leave Canada when it expires.
Any goods that you have shipped over will arrive without a problem. We arrived on TWPs and our goods arrived 6 weeks later.
Hope that helps.

Re: PLEASE HELP: Customs Question
We are here on TWP and picked up our goods last week from Regina. Customs at our POE would not stamp our goods to follow list.
When we picked up our goods, Customs at Regina charged us $200 deposit (about 10% of the declared value of the goods) and told us to come back when we got our PR for a refund.

Re: PLEASE HELP: Customs Question
Hi we landed last month with our visas and filled in our PR forms which they say will be posted to a friends Canadian address for us, (fortunately we had an address for them) then we stayed three weeks and are now back in England until next summer when we go over permanently.
We had our "goods with us" and "goods to follow lists" ready but they didn't ask for them so after we got through immigration we asked a guy in the customs office at the airport and he said they don't need them.
seems a bit odd.
Can anyone enlighten us on this
thanks
PS
Best wishes to Paul & Nadine landing permanently tomorrow.
