You can get the federal sales tax (GST which is a form of VAT) and the provincial
sales tax from some provinces, on some items. You can pick up a form when you land at
the airport in Canada.

I was told that we may be able to get a tax refund on any money we spend whilst on
holiday in Canada. Is this true and if so, how do we go about this?

CN Tower is an unknown quantity at this point

...and keep all the receipts you collect! Where are you going? because if it's Toronto (no reason why it should be, but) apparently there is a new booth/shop in the Eaton Centre where you can claim your GST back, which sounds like a very convenient option.

Claire

GST is only about 7%, so it may not amount to much unless you are paying for
accommodation. Only the Federal portion of the sales tax is refunded. If you send in
you receipts after you return home will the cheque they send you be negotiable in UK?
You cannot assume basic common sense will apply.

You can get a tax refund instantly from the many refund places you will find in all
the major cities & tourist areas. You need to spend a minimum of $50 before the tax
is added for the receipt to be accepted. You can get more information from

http://www.ccra-adrc.gc.ca/tax/nonre...ors/tax-e.html

I hope you have a good holiday, it is a wonderful country.

Jo

Hi there

If you pay for everything by credit card, they will refund to your credit card. This
saves paying your bank to change the cheque...which the Canadians will have already
charged you for changing to US dollars...they think all foreigners are US citizens.

Have a good trip, it's a beautiful country.
