Passport validity

I have two questions:
1. The validity of my passport will expire at the end of Oct 2001 and since I had
my medical done and paid ROLF(without being asked) last Monday only. This is
Sydney Consulate so even if I receive landing papers in three months, that will
be a miracle. People say it does in some cases take even more than six months.
Now what shall I do??? Has any one gone through the same???
2. When finalised, I will be bringing at least AU$ 20000, but haven't got any idea
how to do that in the cheapest and safest way. If I bring a Citi Bank Draft for
that amount, will it be OK? Or how about opening a Executive Plus account with
Royal Bank of Canada? Is there any body out there who migrated from Australia/NZ
and had similar situation like mine??
Many Thanks.

Hi
I think Ive replied to you before, but I had my visa processed at the Sydney
consulate. All I can say it is incredably slow. I did my medicals in early May 2000
and didnt receive my visa until mid Nov 2000. It was really frustrating as I had to
change my planned landing date in Canada.
You could send a letter outlining the fact that your passport is going to expire but
I dont know if that will do any good.
As far as money is concerned I deposited all my cash in my NZ visa card. I dont know
about the banks in Australia but in NZ you earn interest on credit balences also it
costs nothing to make withdrawals from cash machines anywhere. I found its also a
cheap way of transfering funds because you dont pay any fees for currency transfer.
That depends on your credit card agreement though.
Good Luck
