Oh dear....
Just heard about someone who has been here on a WP for the full term (5 years??)...... has just been declined Landed Immigrant status!
He's in his 60's.... will that have had a big negative effect? The immigration lawyer told me that if you're accepted with a WP, LI is 99% certain. Maybe this is not so......

Re: Oh dear....
The lawyer is full of crap. The criteria for getting a PR visa are completely different to getting a TWP. Probably he overestimated his points score or didn't prepare a conclusive enough package. Certainly he employed a useless lawyer.

Re: Oh dear....
No, that was my lawyer when applying for the WP. I told him to assess my case with a view to applying for PR when here. In other words, I was not willing to relocate my family to work here unless I had an extremely good chance of getting PR.

Re: Oh dear....
There are several possible reasons for PR visa refusal under the circumstances, some more serious are:
- Medical inadmissibility due to excessive demand on health and/or social programs (not a problem for WP);
- Criminal inadmissibility due to recent conviction in Canada or abroad, or to the older conviction never disclosed with WP and PR application;
- Inadmissibility due to fraud, omission and/or misrepresentation made with any of applications (WP, PR or admission to Canada during first entry and/or any re-entry);
- Negative security check;
- Negative selection decision on the basis of R76(3) Substitute Evaluation (quite possible taking age into account).
There may be other reasons or combination of reasons though.
