Hello to all. I am coming to you all this morning quite upset, and really mad if you
want to know the truth. I am in the process of applying as a spouse from within for
those of you that don't know. I have been in the process for over a year now. I am
getting no where fast, you people who are flying by should consider your selfs very
lucky. I have been in Canada with no rights nor priliages since Feb. 28, 2000. Been
through 3 visitors visas. Am now considered a TAX payer due to the length that I have
been here. Yet after all this time, and money, I am still not a landed immigrant, you
see, I can't seem to getany answers. I had to Go see a specialist last month and
still have heard nothing except when I called last friday I was told 3 more months. I
have no Child tax credit yet, after all this time, everytime I turn around they are
requesting more information. I provide it, and am told 3 month. WHAT IS THIS 3 MONTH
BS? ok....now. Friday pass, this took the cake. Back in Feb. I fell at a local store
in the parking lot, it was not being maintained properly for the situation outside
(ice, lots and lota of it) no salt nor sand on the parking lot. I have slipped and
herniated my L4 and L5 disk. I need medical care, but have none. I was turned away by
the local hospital, yes refused care, and recieved a bill for almost $500.00CA. So I
had suplemental insurance through my Husbands company, and they covered certian
things, but no my back is still not fixed. And by the way if I might add, if you
don't take out insurance 5 days from landing in Canada, you can't get it. Yet there
are no signs at the border telling you this, there are no warning signs yet that I
have seen regaurding anything like it infact.
OK so, Tho I don't belive in sueing, I was forced to sue the store. I have retained
an ONTARIO lawyer. OK here is the point. Im really sorry to be so lengthy.
I recieved a letter from the lawyer last Friday, June 7?8? what ever the day was, it
had been opened on 3 sides, and taped with scotch tape closed. It was stamped on the
front recieved by CANADA CUSTOMS and REVENUE AGENCY MAY 11 2001. SUDBURY,ON. No one
can tell me WHY the hell my personal mail was opened! YES they not only opened it,
but they also took the stapples out and what I belive is they photo coppied it! The
staples where not replaced either. I feel raped. I feel like I am being spied on, Im
afraid to even use the Phone Im afraid they are llisting to my conversations. I am
doing NOTHING wrong, I have done everything right and by the book. Im loosing faith,
and patients. What can I do? Our local Immigration officer knows me personally and
she can't even belive what I am going through.I am crying so hard, I have an ulcera
nd are breaking out daily in hives. Can anyone help me? or am I at the mercy of the
Canadian Goverment?

Well, you are having a tough time alright. I am surprised that a letter from a lawyer
in Canada should be opened by Canada Customs. How did that happen? To what address
was it sent - in or out of Canada? Customs would not see a letter delivered within
Canada at all. Background checks are the biggest cause of delays in the immigration
process and they depend upon the countries you have lived in, and the degree of the
check they are doing. Some time ago the Minister was finessed into accepting an
instruction that the department should take no chances on background checks. This
means that they often don't do any risk assessment just go ahead and carry out a
wasteful, expensive time-consuming check which is destined to find nothing in the
great majority of cases. Finally, in the department's view you are already privileged
to be allowed to remain in Canada with your spouse while your case is processed. Wish
you luck. Jim Humphries

The letter was sent from a lawyer in mid-Ontario to my home address in norrthern
Ontario and was in regards to a slip and fall I had here in Ontario.
They even unstapled it , which I presume means they photocopied the PRIVATE contents.

In case you still don't know, there're two news articles dated Mar 02, 2001 on Canada
Custom opening up people's mail:
http://ca.fullcoverage.yahoo.com/fc/...ion/news_stor-
ies_1.html
Apparently your lawyer is targeted by CCRA, not you(feeling better?).

YYou should take this up with the lawyer. The letter was not destined overseas and
Customs would have no legitimate reason to open it. They don't even have
permission to open overseas dstined mail, only mail from overseas destined to
Canada. Jim Humphries
